Bawu overview

Bawu

Bawu (pinyin: bā wū), alias Bawu, Gebi, Bai, Bilu, Ule, is a bamboo-winded and copper-reed musical instrument, popular among the Yi, Miao, Hani and other ethnic groups in Yunnan.

Bawu is made of bamboo tube with seven finger holes (six in the front and one in the back), and a tongue-shaped copper reed is disposed on the mouthpiece. When playing, the upper end is blown horizontally, and the vibrating reed makes sound.

Bau is often used in solo, ensemble or rap accompaniment for dances and ballads. Although the sound range of Bawu is narrow and the volume is low, it has a unique national style and is full of national colors. People love it
