"Three Alleys of Plum Blossoms" is also known as "Induction of Plum Blossoms" and "Induction of Jade Concubine". This piece has existed since the Jin and Sui Dynasty. It was originally a flute piece played by Huan Yi in the Jin Dynasty, and was later transplanted into a qin piece by Yan Shigu, a famous qin master in the Tang Dynasty. The name of the piece comes from the fact that the tune representing the image of plum blossoms appears three times in different passages, hence the name "Three Lanes of Plum Blossoms".
