Introduction to Hua Yanjun(erhu)Master performer,composer

Hua Yanjun (August 17, 1893 to December 4, 1950), A Bing, was born in Wuxi City, a folk musician and a Taoist priest of the Taoist school. He was blind in both eyes due to eye disease. He is an outstanding folk musician in China.


A Bing studied Taoist music assiduously, kept improving, and extensively absorbed the tunes of folk music. He composed and performed more than 270 folk songs in his life. His father Hua Qinghe was the Taoist priest of Lei Zun Hall, the Taoist temple of Sanqing Hall in Wuxi City, and was good at Taoist music.

Hua Yanjun lost his mother when he was 4 years old and was raised by his aunt. At the age of 8, he became a small Taoist priest in Lei Zun Hall with his father. He started to study in a private school for 3 years, and then learned from his father drum, flute, erhu, pipa and other musical instruments. At the age of 12, he has been able to play a variety of musical instruments, and often participates in activities such as worship, chanting, and music. At the age of 18, he was hailed as a performer by the Taoist music circle in Wuxi. On December 4, 1950, Abing passed away at the age of 57.

A Bing now has six erhu pieces, "Erquan Reflecting the Moon", "Listening to the Pine", "Cold Spring Wind" and pipa pieces "Big Waves Washing the Sand", "Dragon Boat" and "Zhaojun Out of the Fortress".
