The water content gradient between the shrinkage and the inner surface and the surface, this deformation difference will produce stress when the wood is deformed. When the stress exceeds the tensile strength of the wood, wood cracking will occur at the stress point. Common end cracks , surface fissure, internal fissure, wheel fissure, etc. The degree of deformation and cracking of different wood species varies greatly. Generally, the harder the wood, the easier it is to occur. Even with the development of science today, there is currently no very effective and low-cost solution at home and abroad that can completely prevent wood deformation and cracking.

Instrument Care Guide

1. Dust removal:

Dust frequently with a clean soft cotton cloth such as an old T-shirt. Wring out to use: can reduce friction and avoid scratching the instrument

2. Cleaning:

Before practicing the piano, it is best to dust off your Aegin, then clean your hands and start practicing. During practice, you need to clean the sweat on your hands from time to time to prevent the instrument from getting dirty. After practice, you need to thoroughly clean the piano from beginning to end. Including perspiration on the strings

3. Waxing:

Regular waxing and maintenance, in general, once a month, you can choose a furniture wax or car polishing wax, or you can choose walnut oil to wipe the piano body (the panel of the pipa does not need to be waxed, you can use a dry cotton cloth to remove dust)

4. Choose Qin's home

Choose a place where the piano is not disturbed by idlers and place it stably. With the arrival of the winter heating season in the north, everyone must pay attention to the adjustment of the temperature and humidity of the room where the piano is stored. The humidity is appropriate. In summer, if the rain is too humid, it is best to place a desiccant in the piano box to prevent the body from being affected by moisture and damage to the sound and body. The wood of the musical instrument is very sensitive to temperature. To be more detailed: if the moisture content of wood is 12%, it is regarded as the optimum humidity of wood (requirements vary from region to region), heating in northern buildings in winter will lead to extreme dryness, and floor heating will cause transpiration effects, and the moisture content should be 8% , the summer is humid, the moisture should be 20%, so the instrument is in an environment with sharp fluctuations in temperature and humidity throughout the year.

The most annoying thing for people who play the piano is the cracking of the wood. I believe that all of us have been worried. But wood cracking should be recognized as a normal phenomenon. Not letting it crack is abnormal.

Generally, wood has a moisture content, which is controlled at about 12% or below. The temperature and humidity of different places are different, and the humidity of the air is the key to determine the moisture content of wood. For example, the average annual moisture content of wood in Beijing is 11.4%, Shanghai is 16%, and Wenzhou and Haikou are even higher, reaching 17.3%. When wood comes into contact with air, it absorbs moisture from the air.

In order to balance the moisture content of the instrument with the moisture content of the air, the dry air constantly absorbs moisture from the instrument so that both sides are in equilibrium. In the process, it will naturally crack. There is no wood that does not crack, and even cement steel bars will deform and shrink. Generally, the real mahogany belongs to the dead cell tree, which will crack slightly, but will not burst or break through. The impact is not large, and the mahogany should pay attention to maintenance.
