Gan Shangshi, male, born in October 1931, is a native of Xinyi County (now Xinyi City), Guangdong Province. He has loved music since childhood, especially Gaohu.

Since 1953, he has been the chief gaohu leader of the Guangzhou South China Song and Dance Troupe, and has spent more than 40 years of gaohu performance and education. Now he is a professor of Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music, a famous gaohu performer, a national instrumental music educator, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, a folk music instructor (professor) of the China Correspondence Conservatory of Music, executive director of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, and Guangdong Music Art of the Instrumental Music Department of the China Conservatory of Music. Instructor, consultant of the Canadian Chinese Orchestra, director of the American Biographical Society, member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

In 1957, as a member of the Chinese Youth Art Troupe, he participated in the 6th World Youth and Students Peace and Friendship Festival held in Moscow, Soviet Union. Won the honorary title of Omis Artist. Since 1960, he has been teaching gaohu in Guangzhou Conservatory of Music—Guangzhou Conservatory of Music—Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and has successively cultivated a group of outstanding gaohu performance and teaching talents. Since 1962, he has recorded a large number of cassette tapes, LPs, CDs and radio programs for China and Hong Kong record companies, central, provincial and municipal radio stations. Invited by Hong Kong and Mainland music academies for performances, lectures and academic exchanges.

Since 1982, he has edited and published successively: "Guangdong Music Gaohu Techniques" and "Gan Shangshi Gaohu Performance Selection" (published by staff for the first time) by Beijing People's Music Publishing House, China; systematically summarizing "On Guangdong Music Performance" "Art"; in teaching teaching materials such as "Basic Training of Gaohu Techniques", Gaohu etudes, Gaohu scale exercises, etc.; also created a lot of Guangdong music works, most of which have been recorded by radio broadcast and audio-visual companies and distributed in China In addition, such as "Flower Market Walk", "Pearl River Moon", "Lingnan Xiangli", "Light Boat Dangling in the Moon" and the first national Guangdong Music Grand Prix "Huguang Chunxiao" won the winning works.

As a musician who inherited the past and ushered in the future after the Gaohu master Lu Wencheng, he systematically and comprehensively inherited the wealth of music and art of the motherland, deliberately seeking novelty, and developing his own unique ingenuity, sublimating practice to theory, and then guided by theory The continuous tempering of practice has made his perfect tone more translucent and consummate artistic conception, and has been listed in the "International Who's Who", "The World's Five Thousand Who's Who" and "International Who's Who of Intellectuals" by the American and British World Biographical Society. As an outstanding gaohu performer today, he was also awarded the title of "Expert with Outstanding Contributions" by the State Council.

He has contributed his wisdom and hard work to the cause of national music he loves, and is a well-known performer in the Chinese music scene today.
