Introduction to Wu Man(pipa)Master performer

Wu Man, a Chinese folk music performer, who introduced the pipa to the West, has a great contribution. Wu Man was the direct descendant of the Pudong School. The Pudong School is one of the most respected traditional pipa schools in the dynasty. As the first Chinese folk musician to sign with ICM, the world's largest classical music artist agency, Wu Man's pipa art has been recognized by foreigners.

Since becoming famous in the United States, Wu Man has won many honors and several "firsts", but what she values most is the Research Scholar Award awarded by Harvard Women's College in 1998. During this year's research, Wu Man Her vision is not limited to music itself, she has more exposure to different fields such as science, anthropology, sociology, and philosophy.

"What I'm doing now is trying to give a new definition of the lute, or a new impression of it. I don't want to be just a musician, that's why I have roles in many fields. I I know it's a tough job, but I enjoy it very much. That's what a musician should do, and I'm willing to be such a person who throws a punch." Wu Man said.

In fact, in recent years, more and more Chinese folk instrumentalists have gone abroad and started to cooperate with artists in different musical fields. During the 2006 Shanghai Jazz Festival, Pierre Favre's Jazz Quintet collaborated with Chinese pipa player Yang Jing. Erhu performer Ma Xiaohui also had a "Chinese and Western Music Dialogue" with American pianists. Music exchange and integration between continents has become a major trend in the world of music.
