zhuzuigu overview

zhuzuigu Zhuzuigu (Pinyin: Zhū zuǐ gǔ) is a Zhuang nationality musical instrument. Named because the drum is shaped like a pig's mouth. It is popular in Xincheng County in the central part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. When playing, the drum is placed on a wooden frame and played with a double chime, with a high-pitched and sharp sound. It is used for the accompaniment of Zhuang silk string opera, like the bangu in the Peking Opera band.
The drum frame is chiseled from a whole piece of hard wood such as beech or teak. It is a hollow cone with a small upper part and a large lower part. The upper end of the drum frame is high in the middle and low around the sides, in the shape of a steamed bun. One side is covered with pig skin, and the skin surface is removed. Cover the outside of the drum mouth, the surrounding edges extend to the middle of the drum frame, and fix it with double-row iron nails. The steamed bun-shaped drum surface is surrounded by a wooden drum frame, and the membrane drum surface that vibrates and pronounces in the center is smaller. The lower end of the drum is open. The drum is made of thin bamboo or bamboo, and the drum is 20 cm long and in the shape of a straight rod.
