Dong small pipa overview

Dong small pipa The small pipa (pinyin: dòng zú xiǎo pí pa) of the Dong ethnic group is a plucked stringed musical instrument of the Dong ethnic group. It is called Bibala in the Dong language. It is popular in Rongjiang, Congjiang, Liping, Sanjiang and Rongshui in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province, and Tongtong Dong Autonomous County in Hunan Province.

The structure is the same as the big pipa of the Dong nationality, but the appearance of the qin is various. The body of the piano is made of a whole piece of camphor, mulberry, fir or hard miscellaneous wood. Locally, the wood called "Xiangxiuxue" is mostly used. The specifications and sizes are different, and the total length is 50 cm to 60 cm.

To play the small pipa of the Dong nationality, place the piano box on the right abdomen, the head of the piano is inclined to the upper left, hold the piano with the left hand to press the strings, and the right hand to play the plectrum. Picks are mostly made of bamboo or calf horn. It can be played both in a sitting position and in a standing position. Because the piano body is small and easy to carry, it is suitable for playing while walking.

In the Dong village after the autumn harvest, when the moon hangs on the treetops, in the beautiful and quiet night, young people can be seen everywhere playing the small pipa, and hearing their impromptu "Pipa song". After a day's work, listening to Cong Cong's pipa accompanied by the soft singing of young people is indeed a wonderful enjoyment.
