dongpur overview

dongpur Dongbuer (pinyin: dōng bù ěr) is a plucked stringed musical instrument of the Xibo people. Unique in shape, it is a new variety of musical instruments created on the basis of Han Sanxian and Kazakh Akendumbra. It is popular in Qabqal Xibo Autonomous County, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Huocheng, Gongliu and other places.

Dongbull is composed of a sound box, headstock, piano rod, peg, bridge and strings (pictured), with different sizes. The overall length of the piano body is 67 cm and 108 cm. The sound box is flat and rectangular, similar to the case of the Acendumbra.

Every year on April 18, the Xibo people move westward to commemorate their ancestors moving westward from Shengjing (Shenyang) in the northeast. Other festivals are roughly the same as those of the Han nationality. On the nights of festivals and weddings, the Xibe people often gather around and take turns to dance the "Beleng Dance" imitating the hunting of their ancestors. The dongpur is not only commonly used in solo or ensemble, it is also the main accompaniment instrument in Xibe folk songs and dances.

The more famous music are: "Shawuerdeng", "Duoluer", "Aksur", "Xibobeleng", "Ulan Kebeleng", "Mongolian Beleng" and "Butterfly Dance" and so on.
