Sai Ding overview

Sai Ding Sai Ding (pinyin: sài dīng) is a plucked stringed musical instrument of the Bulang people. The Blang language is also known as Deding, Pading and Dinglang. "De" means playing, and "玎" means qin, which means the qin played. The Han people call it Brown Ding. Popular in Menghai, Jinghong, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and Shuangjiang and Yongde in Lincang.

The Blang people are one of the ancient ethnic groups in our country. The industrious and optimistic Blang people are always happy with their songs and dance. In addition to the accompaniment of Sai Ding when singing and dancing, the instruments used include Guangya (long drum), Guangtun (short drum), erbium and cymbal.

Sai Ding comes in a variety of shapes. The traditional Sai Ding looks somewhat similar to Ruan. It is composed of a resonance box, a headstock, a piano rod, a peg, a bridge and a string (pictured). Traditionally, it is made of a whole piece of locally produced wood called "Dai Duo" in Brown language, and the abdominal cavity is dug out at one end, and the above is covered with "Dai Duo" wood veneer to form a resonance box.

Sai Ding plays and sings songs such as "Said Color Card", "Emotion" and "Suo" (a kind of folk song).
