Dabia overview

Dabia Dabia (pinyin: dá bǐ yà) is an ancient plucked instrument of the Nu people, mostly used for solo or folk song and dance accompaniment. It is popular in Gongshan, Bijiang, Fugong, Lanping and other places in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. "Dabia" is an angry language, and the Lisu people call it "Qibue".

The most popular traditional musical instrument of the Nu people is the pipa, oval or triangular in shape, with four strings. When young men and women fall in love, they do not use language to talk, but rely on "Dabiya" and "kouxian" two Nu musical instruments to "play". Young men often use "Dabiya" to express their admiration to girls, while young women answer with "mouth strings", and they can understand the meaning of each other's tune and tone.

Dabbia is mostly used for solo or folk song and dance (such as pipa dance) accompaniment. In local songs and dances, musicians often change the posture of holding the piano, hold the piano over the head, and hold it on the right shoulder to sing and dance. , quite the image of "rebounding pipa" in Dunhuang frescoes.
