Saixiao

Saixiao (pinyin: sāi xiāo), alias Zhanjian, is a musical instrument of the Miao people, popular in Xingyi and Anlong in Guizhou Province, Longlin, Xilin, Napo in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangnan and Funing in Yunnan Province. The Miao nationality area bordering the three provinces of Guangxi, Yunnan and Yunnan.

The pipe body of the pipe is made of bamboo, and it is mostly made of the locally grown bamboo called chest ding in the Miao language. The length of the tube is generally 42 cm, with no joints in the middle and transparent at both ends. The outer diameter of the upper nozzle is 2.1 cm and the inner diameter is about 1.5 cm, and the outer diameter of the lower nozzle is 1.7 cm and the inner diameter is about 1.3 cm.

Saixiao is used for solo performance, and the music played are all from the tones of folk songs, but there is no fixed tune, only the far key and the near key.

Saixiao is one of the commonly used musical instruments in the social and love life of young Miao men and women, and is mostly played by young men. Due to the different ways of luck, the fingering used and the music played, each lad's performance is unique.
