doadao overview

doadao Dance to (Pinyin: Dǎo dào) is a musical instrument played by the Kemu people. According to the translation, it is called bamboo tuning fork. It is popular in the areas where Kemu people live in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Among the Kemu people, women are particularly fond of them, and they often play while walking or finishing work. Every New Year or festive festival, the Kemu girls often gather together and dance while playing. The dance is called "dance to dance". Solo pieces include "Girls Like Tune" and so on.
It is made of bamboo pipes. Choose two bamboo pipes with a length of 80 cm to 100 cm and a diameter of 2.5 cm to 3 cm. The upper part of the bamboo tube is split and cut into a tuning fork shape, that is, the front and rear tube walls are cut off, and the left and right tube walls are left. The length of the fork is 25 cm to 27 cm, and the distance between the two forks is 2 cm. A slit is split in the front and rear of the tube wall under the fork along the tuning fork, and a cotton thread is sandwiched between them to help the tuning fork vibrate and pronounce. On the front and back sides of the lower part of the bamboo pipe, a rectangular sound hole with a length of 0.8 cm and a width of 0.6 cm is opened. The sound hole on the front is on the top, 30 cm from the bottom, and the sound hole on the back is on the bottom, 26 cm from the bottom.
When playing, hold the lower part of the tube body with the right hand, press the upper hole with the thumb, and press the hole with the middle finger or ring finger. Lifting the tube makes the upper tuning fork hit the left palm and wrist to produce the fundamental sound, just like the sound of a bowstring playing cotton. The upper and lower sound holes are opened respectively, and two notes can be produced. The lower end of the tube hits the waist or leg to produce another sound. Four tones: d1, #f1, a1, b1, except the fundamental tone, the others are overtones that change with the length of the air column in the tube, and the tone is delicate and weak. Can be used for solo or ensemble.
